From Project Management to Podcasting: Championing Women's Careers in Insurance
MEET SANDRA
How did it all started
I started in insurance as a broker, and over the years, I changed my career multiple times. Once I discovered project management, there was no going back.
My career path was clear: keep working hard, keep pushing, and one day, I would become CEO of Lloyd’s. Little did I know how things would change…
While building my career in insurance, I was also dipping my toe into the career in performance dance and even taking on a dance project in the Broking House I was working in at the time. Ask me, and I will share the story over coffee 🙂
My career goal was clear….become the next Female CEO of Lloyd’s.
wHAT CHANGED?
In 2020, I was finally diagnosed with Endometriosis and Adenomyosis (I waited 17 years for this diagnosis). As a result, I had to take over 6 months off work (and then further 5 months) to undergo complex operations and lengthy recovery.
During this time I have reflected a lot on my career and decided that the CEO role was no longer my career path. Instead, I reached out to an amazing network that I established over the years and set up as a change consultant in the insurance market, delivering complex transformations, setting up new syndicates and developing operating models.
My main motivation behind such change was to create a working environment where I can also spend time helping women in insurance progress in their careers and find their own version of success.
After two years of trial and error, I launched the 100 Women in Insurance Podcast, which received over 60 guest applications in just a few days of launch and over 1k downloads in the first month.
Launching the podcast helped me to find the gap in insurance that I now fill with the 100 Women in Insurance Collective.
I am passionate about creating a community that empowers women in insurance to attract and retain female talent and ensure future gender equality.
What’s next for 100 women insurance?
Our vision is for everyone to have access to mentor, sponsor and role model. To feel inspired, empowered and supported to remain and build a successful career in insurance.
The goal is to create an ever-growing community of incredible and inspiring individuals.
Organizing events both in person and online that challenge the ‘grey and boring’ insurance status quo and inspire insurance career as a choice, not a chance.
oUTSIDE OF WORK
If I am not working on the amazing 100 Women In Insurance Community and Podcast, you can find me spending time with my family, dancing, travelling and eating out.
Since recovering from my operation, I try to find joy in each day, no matter how small it may be. If you meet me, you will see a high level of energy (most days) however sometimes I also like to balance my energy with a book, quiet space (ideally outside) and time to myself. I love a spa day!
I hope that through my work, you will get to find your path and strength to keep finding joy in life and your career.
